The RED-8 is an open source dual bandpass NIR filter for the agricultural study of vegetation and must be processed through outside software systems like Infragram, Drone Deploy, Pix4D, Botlink, Agribotix, etc. Always check and ask to test their software first. For 3.35mm, GoPro, DJI.
These filters are made from optical glass for maximum resolution quality to the HD resolution lenses or sensor we apply the filter to. We use only the highest resolution mapping lenses for these NDVI filters. Each of our filters must pass strict guidelines for proper transmission.
Our NDVI vegetation stress camera conversion service allows your camera to capture blue, green and near-infrared light for use in vegetation stress or health monitoring by UAV drone mapping.
These custom vegetation-sensing lenses filter out all green and blue light and instead allows the normally blocked near infrared band to be collected. This allows your camera to collect NIR, and Red light (NR). With this data, the vegetation index RED+NIR can be calculated.
This Dual filter has been designed primarily for the red channel NDVI imaging applications. When using a single camera, incorporation of this filter allows reflected red light to be captured in the camera sensor’s red channel and reflected near-infrared light to be captured in the sensor’s blue channel (the green channel is not used).
Even when using an inexpensive consumer camera (that has first had its IR blocking filter removed), this easy separation then makes it possible to post-process the red and blue channels for NDVI by performing the calculation: NDVI = (blue – red) / (blue + red). Healthy vegetation will absorb (not reflect) red light and strongly reflect near-infrared light.
Thus this information can then be used to apply a false color gradient to images to better highlight the contrast between regions of healthy vegetation vs. areas with stressed/diseased or no vegetation.
If focusing the Red-8 lens yourself, Put the camera in B&W mode to do so otherwise it will be very difficult to focus red on a monitor.

Note: There are some cheap aftermarket makers from China producing a poor quality version of our filters and calling it "NDVI-7", "NDVI-8", "Red-8", and "CVI-6". It is not one of ours or the same accurate specs as ours. If you didn't get it from IRpro or our other affiliates then you got a counterfeit filtered lens.
